Sony has agreed to remove the rootkit-like part of its fingerprint scanner/flash drive. An update sometime this month will remove the software's ability to hide directories, a technique that could be abused by an attacker.
Interestingly, Sony has downplayed this episode by claiming that it has not sold many of these secure flash drives, which are no longer being manufactured. It also claims that the fault lies with a Chinese software developer, which wrote the offending code.
